A Message From Your SSU President:
Dear Sheridan Students,
Given the recent developments at the College, including the suspension of certain programs and the ongoing efficiency reviews, we are facing a time of uncertainty. As both a former student and your current President, I understand how difficult this moment is for you. I am actively engaged with Ontario Student Voices (OSV) provincially, and the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) federally, constantly amplifying the student voice here at Sheridan. I recognize the challenges you may be grappling with: what these changes mean for you now, for your next few years at the College, and for your future after graduation as you enter the workforce.
You may find yourself at a crossroads, questioning the time and effort you've invested in your academic journey. These are completely valid concerns.
At this moment, what I can offer you is my personal promise and commitment to continue advocating on your behalf. I assure you that the Sheridan Student Union (SSU) will persist in its mission to create an exceptional student experience through focused programs, services, and advocacy. Now, more than ever, these resources are essential.
I encourage you to take advantage of the many services we provide. Here are just a few examples:
Dressed for Success: This program offers free interview-ready and winter apparel to students. The items are donated, dry cleaned, and available at all SSU offices.
Free Hygiene Kits: Students can request hygiene kits from our website, which include items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, and conditioner.
Free Legal Advice: Our lawyer, Bill Reid, provides expert legal advice on a variety of topics, including family law, immigration, criminal law, landlord/tenant issues, and more.
These are just a few of the services available to you. For a full list of supports and services, please visit thessu.ca/the-services.
Please note, Sheridan students can access SSU services until December 18th at 5 pm. Our offices will reopen and support will resume on January 2nd at 9 am.
We also offer numerous events and opportunities for you to connect with others. Please visit our upcoming events page to check out what's coming up. Whether it’s attending an event or joining one of our 100+ clubs, now is a great time to connect with your peers. Remember, you are not alone in these worries. Sharing your experiences and concerns with others who have similar interests can be incredibly beneficial.
We also want to hear from you. Please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts or suggest programs and events you’d like to see at SSU on our website. We are always student-focused and committed to providing services that meet your needs, especially during these uncertain times.
The SSU will continue to empower the student community, helping you succeed in an ever-changing world.
In solidarity,
Ganyo Soh
