Volunteers Making Meaningful Impact!

SSU’s Volunteer Program is designed to provide Sheridan students with an opportunity to support SSU initiatives and events. As a volunteer, Sheridan students will not only support SSU’s initiatives but also build their resume and create a standout volunteer portfolio. This program is all about collaboration and growth, giving you the chance to develop valuable skills and connect with fellow students. Come be a part of something meaningful! Make a difference on campus and contribute to enhancing the Sheridan Life.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities

Volunteers will support a range of SSU activities, including but not limited to:

  • Event Facilitation: Helping with event setup, logistics, and execution.

  • Campus Engagement: Assisting in promoting SSU initiatives through pop-up events.

  • Advocacy & Support: Helping with Student Governance opportunities like SSU Elections, AGM, etc.

SSU’s Volunteer Program will launch in January 2025.

How It Works

  • Along with your formal resume submission, you will complete a questionnaire to provide insights into your motivations and suitability for the program.

  • Volunteers selected for the program will undergo onboarding and orientation to familiarize themselves with the SSU’s policies, procedures, and expectations. Training will ensure that volunteers have the knowledge and skills to perform their duties effectively.

  • Hours of commitment will depend on the nature and frequency of activities.

SSU’s Volunteer Program was brought back to Sheridan,
courtesy of your SSU Vice Presidents!

The SSU’s Volunteer Program is designed to foster a sense of community, encourage personal growth, and provide students with opportunities to make a positive impact on campus. After speaking to students inside the classrooms, at Orientation, and events, our Exec team discovered that students are actively looking for opportunities to get involved on campus.

Vice Presidents Amalia Powell and Grace Rebeca Verghese came together to offer a solution.

A quote that embodies the importance of voluntarism to me is from Denzel Washington that says “At the end, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” Being a volunteer is a rewarding experience. As a volunteer, you are able to enrich the lives of those you help while enriching yours. You are able to contribute and make a meaningful impact. In this world, no man is an island, and we are all interconnected, relying on each other. Each one reaches one, touching the lives of those around us.
— Amalia Powell
This program sparked back to life from our conversations with students through office hours and classroom visits, where we heard firsthand the challenges faced by our students, especially around gaining Canadian experience to boost their careers. As advocates of the #sheridanlife, relaunching the volunteer program is our way of filling that gap and creating meaningful impact. As a legacy piece, my hope for this program is that every student leaves with a sense of purpose and pride, knowing they’ve been part of something greater than themselves and made lasting impact, while of course, having fun along the way!”
— Grace Rebeca Verghese
