Children's Aid Foundation Virtual Walk Fundraiser

Help Support Children’s Aid Foundation with the CYC Club!

From May 24th- June 21st 2020, the CYC Club will be promoting and supporting the Children’s Aid Foundation’s COVID-19 Youth Support Fund which is helping to support the 2,300 young people "aging-out" of the child welfare system in Canada each year, who are particularly impacted now by the effects of COVID-19.

From June 14th-21st, the CYC Club is hosting a virtual 5km walk to get people active and promote the work CAF is doing! Join us in the 5K by walking, running, rolling, biking, cartwheels, or whatever activity works for you.

We ask you to continue to follow the social distancing protections in Ontario while completing your walk.

Help us show our country's most vulnerable youth that they are not alone!

Each year in Canada, 2,300 young people “age-out” of the child welfare system. Youth as young as 18 are considered adults, and are no longer eligible for the type of support they receive in foster care and group homes. These vulnerable youth struggle to find reasonable employment and affordable housing, making it difficult for them to afford food or meet their other needs. These challenges have only been exacerbated by the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

This global crisis is resulting in immediate youth unemployment and an inability to afford rent, utilities and food. They have no family home to turn to, and often fall under the radar of government agencies. The current societal changes and urgency of social isolation has also impacted access to critical mental health supports, which youth desperately rely on, increasing their anxiety and feelings of instability.

The Child and Youth Care Club at Sheridan was founded in 2018 by CYC students that wanted to make a difference in the social life, emotional well-being and self care routines of other CYC students. As a club, we decided to team up with CAF to help bring awareness and donations to their COVID-19 Youth Support Fund!
