Sheridan Student Union stands with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
At Sheridan Student Union, we are committed to creating and fostering safe, inclusive spaces for all Sheridan students to learn, work and thrive in. We proudly stand in support of all 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and every single person’s human right to feel comfortable in their own bodies and feel safe expressing who they are.
Hate has no place here.
As protests are happening around the country today advocating against the teaching of 2SLGBTQIA+ identities – in an attempt at disempowering the progress that the 2SLGBTQIA+ community has made for their rights, their freedoms, and their ability to express themselves - we will stand with those pushing back against this. The ideology of “protecting children from premature sexualization and potentially harmful indoctrination,” is one based on misinformation, prejudice, and ignorance.
This false ideology is a shield that intends to discredit those fighting back. It is unfounded and being used to perpetuate hate against our friends, neighbours, family members, and communities.
Prejudice has no place here.
The Sheridan Student Union provides support for Sheridan students, including mental health support, legal services, health and dental care.These services are provided for all students regardless of background, gender, sexual orientation, or how you express your true self.
We are proud to remove barriers to accessing these important services for all students and have expanded our health care coverage to provide gender-affirmation care. We commit to continuing our work in support of our 2SLGBTQIA+ community in all that we do.
This is a community of passionate, caring, loving, and understanding individuals. We do not condone discrimination against anyone in our community, and we will not stand for anyone trying to advocate against the rights of those within our diverse communities. To all those within our community, you will always have a place within the Sheridan Student Union, and we will always be looking out for you, your rights, and your freedoms. We stand with you.
