LivingWorks START Workshop Teaches Sheridan Students Suicide Intervention and Prevention Skills
FREE Training open to all sheridan students
Now more than ever, in today’s climate of uncertainty, it is essential that we have effective skills to keep each other safe, even if it is from afar. The SSU is offering a free START training session for students to learn suicide intervention and prevention skills.
LivingWorks START is a two-hour self-paced online module that teaches students how to recognize when someone is thinking about suicide and outlines the steps to connect them with help and support.
Students who are interested in participating in the March workshop must sign up by Friday, February 18 2021.
How the workshop works
You will have from February 21th - March 4th to complete the two hour START module AND must register for a virtual one hour post training workshop on Wednesday, March 9th 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm EST. This workshop seeks to help students feel more confident in their ability to talk with the people they care about when there might be a cause for concern. You will leave this training:
Confident in your ability to recognize signs
Reassured that you can help, if faced with this situation
Inspired to help out where they can
Post training workshops will give you the chance to talk about what you learned, answer any questions, and refresh students on the resources available to them at Sheridan.
Those that successfully complete the module & post-workshop session will be given a $20 Apple Music/Spotify gift card and a Certificate of Completion will be given by LivingWorks to add to your resume/CV.
