January 2025 Sheridan Student Union Recap
January set the tone for an exciting year at the SSU! For Mental Wellness Month, we focused on supporting our community’s well-being at our first Community Fair of the year, connecting students with our SSU's Health and Dental Insurance, Peel Regional Police, City of Mississauga, and Roots Community Services. Events like Sexy Science Trivia and the Intimate Partner Violence Workshop brought awareness to cultivate thriving and informed relationships with ourselves and others. Our Sheridan Life Blog kicked off the year with valuable insights from students, including reflections on How to Connect With Your True Values to Live a Wholesome Year.

Updates From Our Board of Directors
The 2025/2026 SSU Board of Directors Elections are approaching quickly! To ensure the entire election process runs smoothly and fairly, the current SSU Board have formed an Elections Committee to review nomination forms.
Meet The Elections Committee:
The Board of Directors is successfully holding biweekly Board Meetings, reaffirming their commitment to bringing student issues and feedback to the Board table. This regular connection helps the team stay responsive keeping the lines of communication open, especially as we gear up for some important events like the Annual General Meeting (AGM), InnocaS.E 2.0, and the Elections.
Your Directors are happy to hear your feedback, challenges, and anything you'd like to see improved! Check the office hours at each campus and share your voice!
“Office hours are now live and running at each of our campuses! Drop by to chat, share feedback, or ask questions—Directors are here to connect with students and enhance the student experience. See Director Roopkomal at the Student Center at Davis and Director Glaron at TRC’s Student Center.”

With over 60 participants in January, these conversations will help our team develop relevant advocacy programs for students.
Another big highlight this month was the pop-up event The Power of Journaling: A Journey of Gratitude. Where the SSU Executive Team launched "My Gratitude Journal". Over 300 students joined this experience, exploring the perks of daily reflection and cultivating gratitude.

The energy was great, and it was the perfect way to bring students together for a night of sports and iconic memories.
Talking about never-seen-before, the Events Team brought the first ever Wrestling Show at Sheridan thanks to the collaboration with Smash Wrestling! The lively matches kept students on the edge of their seats, and we can’t wait to bring this event back soon.

Sheridan Student Union Clubs
Our Clubs Coordinators started the year strong at Orientation and Bruno's Lounge events by supporting new students integrate into our Sheridan community by joining new clubs on campus! Clubs Coordinators also worked hard to prepare for a successful Winter Clubs Fair Event in mid-February where we are looking forward to connecting with even more students!
This month, our SSU Clubs Team also hosted 17 exciting events, with a special shoutout to our Hackville Club for going out to the Hackville Event, a 48-hour overnight Hackathon attended by +150 students from Sheridan and other postsecondary schools!

Our Clubs community keeps growing and thriving through shared interests! In January, we welcomed four new student clubs:
Sheridan Recreational Dance Club: The Sheridan Recreational Dance Club is for anyone who loves dancing and wants to learn different styles while having fun.
Launchpad Business: A business club to empower students to explore, define, and execute their business ideas through hands-on activities and collaborative discussions.
Women in Business and Technology Club: This club is dedicated to creating connections, learning opportunities, and professional growth for women pursuing careers in business and technology.
Mental Health Club: A club for students to discuss their struggles in a safe, comforting, judgement-free zone for anyone needing to connect with others and remember that they are not alone.
SSU Clubs Coordinator, Monica, reminds us that it’s never too late to pursue new opportunities or change your direction in life.
Additionally, these SSU clubs are actively looking for members to become official clubs:
