This month we lit up the season with our favourite holiday traditions, hit the road to advocate for students, and proudly watched our amazing students shine at the International Student Conference across the country. As we say goodbye to 2023, let's celebrate a year filled with impact, growth, and shared community successes and look forward to a bright year ahead.
Executive Team & Board of Directors
SSU Board of Directors went on an off-campus retreat to Ottawa to strengthen their goal-setting and plans for the upcoming 2024 year.
Cat Pham, your VP of Academics, Leia Ali, your VP of International Affairs, and Ritz Cruz, your VP of Engagement, attended the CBIE Conference in Vancouver and gained insight on resources available to support international students better.
Ritz Cruz, your VP of Engagement, also worked with the Events Team to plan our SSU Staff Holiday Party-The Great Gatsby-themed!
Cameron Spencer, your VP of Community, shared his experience travelling to Ottawa for CASA’s Advocacy Week and returned to campus to plan SHAVS events for the new term.
Our Services Department
We hosted a Perks fair at our HMC Campus and Davis Campus to offer coupons, discounts and ways to save money as a student!
A special shoutout to Cally and Rachel for making themselves available to help students during our SSU Holiday Office closure! Students can contact the SSU via email and the live chat feature on our website! Reach us virtually from Dec 19th-22nd.
Our Clubs & Organizations
The Clubs Coordinators held their end of semester feedback sessions for clubs to stop by and chat about the Fall term and share ideas on how we can improve Clubs support next year.
Clubs hosted 16 events this month and we now have 16 prospective clubs looking for executives in order to start up and be an active club in January!
Here are a few clubs looking to get started in 2024: ASL Sheridan, Board Games Club, Davis Book Club, DOLMA, Gardening Club, and Sheridan Glee Club.
Take a look at Clubs Corner to discover more clubs to start and join!
Our Events Team
We collaborated with Sheridan Life Radio at the Marquee and started a concert series, with the first one featuring the punk band Single Mothers.
We hosted SSU’s 9th Annual Kids Holiday Party at the HMC Student Centre, which served over 30 families, and gave all the kids a chance to get a present from Santa himself!
We announced our Winter Welcome Week Concert: Connor Price is headlining with Haviah Mighty and Unsighted! Bruins, tell your friends and get your tickets now! And keep your eye out for all the fun we have coming next semester, including table tennis tournaments, weekend getaways, a Raptors game, a Sheridan’s Got Talent competition, and much more!
Our Food Services Team
We made the food for SSU’s Annual Kids Holiday Party! It’s always nice to see all the families that came out, had a fun time, met Santa clause, and received gifts and food from the SSU. The smiles on their faces were priceless!
Our team was featured in lots of behind-the-scenes videos on the @SSUHungry Instagram page. If you love food and fun, check out our page during the holidays for a few festive surprises!
And that’s the 2023 wrap-up, Bruins! As your Student Union, we are proud to share company-wide contributions and recognize the talented and hardworking student leaders who help make it happen all –year long. For more information about 2024 events and programs, visit thessu.ca.
