Parth Thummar

TRC Candidate

Tell us about yourself and your involvement in the Sheridan community:

“My name is Parth Thummar. I will be stepping into the last year of my Bachelor’s in Applied Information Science Program in January 2022. My home campus is TRC. I have always been passionate about involving within the community, whether its school or college life. Talking about my involvement within Sheridan community, to follow my passion, I decided to stand for the elections of BOD for the fiscal year 2020-21. Well, this was the first ever board to conduct meetings in the virtual space. My previous experience has helped me grow both professionally as well as personally and I would like to take it to further extend. I have also been a Peer Mentor at Sheridan College. Being a Peer Mentor helped me build network within the campus community by connecting with students and helping them succeed by aligning them with the support and service required. Leveraging student needs encountered during my integrating with students as a peer mentor has always helped me be the voice of student and take effective decisions during my previous term. I have also been a part of Ancillary Fee Committee where I had an exposure with higher level Sheridan staff and being on the fore front of taking decisions that impact the larger student body.”

As a member of the Board of Directors, all elected members will represent the mission and values of Sheridan Student Union. and will focus our attention and efforts in three main Pillars of Success.

For PARTH, the importance of these pillars is as follows:

  1. ENHANCING THE WELL-BEING OF OUR STUDENTS

  2. CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT THAT PROMOTES A VIEW OF THE WHOLE STUDENT EXPERIENCE

  3. SUPPORTING ACCESS AND ACCOUNTABILITY TO QUALITY EDUCATION

Explain why you chose “Enhancing the well-being of out students” as your highest priority?

“To start with, it’s a human tendency that mentally strong person always gives the best of their performance. As a student union, that always aims for the betterment of student community, I would prioritize the pillar for enhancing the well being of our students. Well, with my previous experience on board, we have put a lot of efforts on mental health of our fellow students. No doubt, we all have passed through extreme situations during these Covid times whether it might be financial or mental stress. Being a member on board, I believe that members are accountable for supporting students and providing with resources they need when it’s most required. I am someone who is always willing to take accountability for such. Moreover, creating an environment that promotes a view of the whole student experience is also important as per the priority to enhance #SheridanLife experience for student and making it memorable while they are here with us. Supporting access and accountability to quality education will also be an integral part for me as a director to promote equality and diversity.”
