Program: Software Development and Network Engineering

Tell us about you and your role within the SU:

“My name is Om Patel, and I am a third-year student in the Software Development and Network Engineering program. Throughout my time at Sheridan, I have been actively involved in various leadership activities and roles. I began my journey as a member of the Board of Directors in my first semester and have since worked with the Peer Mentor team and served as a Student Ambassador, providing support to fellow students. I completed my first co-op in the IT department at Sheridan College, where I gained valuable experience. My dedication to leadership and student support has been recognized with the Dare to Care Student Leadership Award, and I was also nominated for the Emerging IT Leadership Award. Reflecting on my three years at Sheridan, I am most impressed by the numerous leadership and student engagement opportunities available through both the college and the Sheridan Student Union (SSU). These experiences have significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth, transforming me from when I first started to where I am now.”

What is your goal as a member of the Board this year?

“As a member of the Board of Directors, my primary goals this year are to help establish long-term objectives for the organization, raise awareness about the resources available to students, and address transportation and other student-related issues. I am committed to being an advocate for the student body, and I encourage any Sheridan student who encounters common issues and wanted a resolution then don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Your feedback is vital in ensuring we address the needs of our community effectively.”

Tell us a fun fact about you:

“A fun fact about me is that I once spent two hours coding to automate a five-minute manual task so I don’t have to do it manually again.”
