OHIP + Changes

We wanted to share share some important information about your Health & Dental Plan. Starting April 1, 2019, the government of Ontario is making changes to OHIP+, the provincial public drug program.

How does this affect me?

Ontario residents 24 and under with access to a private Plan that covers prescription drugs, including student plans, will no longer be eligible for OHIP+.

For claims incurred on or after April 1, 2019, prescription drug claims must be submitted directly through your student Health Plan, as they were prior to the introduction of OHIP+. Use your Pay-Direct Card or keep your receipts and submit them for reimbursement by the insurer.

Studentcare is working diligently to minimize any service disruption following these legislative changes.

What about spouses and children?

Your spouse and dependants who are 24 and under may still be eligible for OHIP+, if you did not enrol them in the student Health Plan for coverage until Aug. 31, 2019, or if they are not covered by another private plan (e.g. through an employer).

How can I save on prescription drug costs?

Studentcare and Rexall Pharma Plus have partnered to provide Plan members with savings of 10% off prescription drug costs (up to a max of $40). Simply present a copy of your Pay-Direct Card to your Rexall pharmacy and your pharmacist will process your claim immediately. Other savings are also available on Rexall brand products. Find a Rexall location near you here.
