Meet Your 2023/2024 Elected SSU Board!
Your votes are in, Bruins! Are you ready to meet your Board?
We're excited to announce your newly elected Sheridan Student Union Board of Directors!
The 2023/2024 SSU Elections kicked off with flying colours. Over 45 Sheridan students across all three campuses submitted their nomination packages- making it a record-breaking nomination period for the SSU.
To bring the candidates together, our former Vice President of Staff and Community and Chief Returning Officer, Rhema Javed, led the All-Candidates Meeting inside the new HMC Student Centre. This meeting was created to help candidates learn more about the elections process, what the SSU Board of Directors actually does, and how they can run a successful campaign. Though it lasted no more than a few hours, the All-Candidates Meeting was a huge full-circle moment.
In 2016, the SSU Board of Directors at the time was determined to create a new Student Centre at the Mississauga campus. Nearly eight years later, the vision of the past Board of Directors developed into what we now get to experience as a new HMC Student Centre. Being able to facilitate the All-Candidates Meeting inside a building envisioned by past Directors was a true testament to the power of student advocacy. The fact that a student leader who once embarked on the same journey as our current Directors was able to support our new Board through elections was also an empowering community moment.
"I had so much fun organizing the 2023 SSU Board of Directors elections. I ran in the 2021 elections, and being on the organizing end was a completely surreal experience. I can say with experience that running in elections is an extremely stressful process, but I am extremely proud of all the candidates for going through it and making it work. I congratulate all candidates for taking this step in their leadership journey. Finally, congratulations to the 2023 elected Board; I cannot wait to see the changes you have to offer the student body. " - Rhema Javed, Vice President of Staff and Community Engagement
This year’s group of SSU Elections candidates gathered in the HMC Student Centre, created by students, for students and got ready for Campaign Week from March 21 - March 26. You may have seen the posters across all campuses, checked out the candidates' social pages, or even sparked a conversation with your candidates in the halls. Meeting your candidates beforehand was important, but it all came down to our 3-day voting period. We are happy to share that nearly 2000 students cast their ballots made their mark and voted in this year’s election!
We would like to thank all students who participated in the elections this year. From nominations to voting, your commitment to shaping the Sheridan Life will continue to have a positive impact on your peers and future students as well.
