Call For Submissions: Black History Month 2025
Celebrating the Mosaic: Black is Limitless
As we approach a new year and continue our ongoing celebration of Black History, we invite the community to engage in two ways: get involved with our Creative Reflection Contest and upcoming BHM Pop-Up Experience!
Share A Black History Month Creative Reflection
If you had the chance to create a reflection piece that celebrated Black History, what would you make? Whether it’s a painting, illustration, photograph, poem, short film or multimedia piece, there are infinite possibilities on what could be produced, learned and shared. That limitless potential is exactly what our Black History Month 2025 celebration is all about.
We are inviting all Sheridan Students to explore the richness of Black people and cultures in totality. Some aspects of Black History are deeply personal and unique depending on your lived experiences. Other aspects are communal, shared and culturally understood. This year, we’re celebrating the mosaic that exists when we combine the personal and the collective.
The annual Black History Month Creative Reflection Contest is your chance to bring your vision to life. This year, we are inviting you to share what “Celebrating the Mosaic: Black Is Limitless” means to you?
Your submissions can be through photography, creative writing, painting, illustration, multi-media, poetry or any other medium through which you choose to express yourself. Submit your work by February 28, 2025 for a chance to win awards of up to $750!
Support our “Celebrating the Mosaic: Black Is Limitless” Pop-Up
As part of our Black Excellence pop-up experience, we are also inviting all members of the Sheridan community from students, faculty, and staff to share the name and a brief description of inspirational figures, notable moments in history or community-led organizations who have made a significant impact to Black History. These submissions will support us in creating a ‘mosaic’ panel at our Black History Month 2025 pop-up events.
