March 2024: Sheridan Student Union Recap

We're back with another exciting monthly update, highlighting all the incredible accomplishments and events that took place on our campuses in the month of March. From successful events to new club additions, here's a recap of how we worked to enhance the #SheridanLife:

Sheridan Student Union Services

International Women's Day Event

SSU’s Marketing, Services and Events teams came together and organized a highly successful International Women's Day (IWD) pop-up at each campus focused on women's health and well-being and featured valuable information and resources from our community partners. We collaborated with community resources and Sheridan College to showcase support for our strong Sheridan women. We're thrilled with the success of these events and look forward to making them an annual occurrence.

First Aid Classes

We held our first-ever First Aid Classes, where students had the opportunity to obtain their First Aid and CPR Certification for free - both classes were fully booked! We’re proud to provide this important training to our students and look forward to hosting it again soon.

Sheridan Student Union Clubs

Cultural Week

The Clubs Department hosted the first-ever Cultural Week, featuring a Cultural Fair at HMC and a Cultural Concert at Trafalgar. Both events were a great success, thanks to the fantastic coordination of our four Clubs Coordinators. As a result, we've decided to make this an annual event!

Clubs Highlights

This month, our clubs hosted 29 events and we welcomed 6 new clubs to our community.

Let's give a warm welcome to the new clubs starting up in March:

  • Karaoke Crazy (HMC): Karaoke - through song and dance has the power to get us all on to tap our feet, exercise our vocals, shed away our inhibitions, and have a good time!

  • Latin Club Trafalgar: The Latin Club Trafalgar brings together all the Latin Americans in Trafalgar.

  • International Business and Supply Chain (HMC): Gain knowledge and expertise in the exciting world of International Business & Supply Chain Management. Join our community, unite with diverse talents, and thrive alongside us as we navigate the business world together.

  • K-Pop and K-Drama Club (HMC): A club for students to come together, watch, socialize, and enjoy K-pop & K-dramas together. We also put on fun events relating to K-pop, K-dramas, and Korean culture.

  • Sync Dance Team (TRAF): This organization is a competitive dance team. Dancers on this team will audition for a spot, have weekly practices, join a new community, and compete against other colleges and universities in Ontario.

  • Davis Book Club: Whether you're an avid reader, a casual bookworm, or someone looking to reignite their love for reading, our club is the perfect place for you.

We also have one prospective club on the horizon, the Davis Pride Club. This inclusive space will welcome all students at Sheridan, ensuring everyone feels welcome and accepted.

In addition to our International Women’s Day pop-ups, one of the highlights of the month was our Sexy Bingo event at the Trafalgar campus. With the help of Doll Haus events, our students had a blast and won some exciting prizes. This event not only entertained but also helped to inform students about safe sex and consent, destigmatizing the subject of sexual well-being for students.

We also conducted feedback surveys on campus, providing valuable insights into student preferences and ideas for next year's programming. This student input will shape future events and activities.

Last but not least, we had a record-breaking turnout of nearly 400 students at HMC for our Holi celebration. It was a vibrant and joyous event that filled our campus with colour, music, and fun!

Sheridan Student Union Food Services

Our Food Services team has been hard at work, catering to various events and offering delicious menu items. Highlights from this month include:

  • Pathways event: Our Davis team catered breakfast and lunch for 100 people.

  • Giveaway: We treated approximately 600 students to a donut, yogurt, and coffee.

  • Bruin Coffee House: The Sweet Chilli Chicken with Fried Rice was a hit and extended on the menu due to its popularity.

  • Spring Open House: All three campuses will showcase our catering highlights during the event on March 23rd and 24th.

  • We successfully catered various events, including the AGM, International Clubs Fair, and Leadership Conference.

Our best-selling menu item for March was the Vegetarian Lo Mein paired with a quarter BBQ chicken, which we offered once a week at HMC. It was a favourite among our customers.

For samples this month, we have been showcasing the delicious Bombay Melt. Be sure to grab a taste at your campus student centre.

Sheridan Student Union Executive Team

  • Cat, your VP of Academics, hosted an SSU Alumni Talk, finalized ideas for SSU Academic Integrity Week + De-stress Fest event in April, participated in Open House at Davis Campus with the Exec. Team, and collaborated as CRO for the Board of Director Elections.

  • Ritz, your VP of Engagement, helped Cat plan the first SSU Alumni Talk as well as our Annual End of Year staff celebrations! Similar to her fellow exec team members, Ritz has been helping coordinate and assist with SSU Board of Director Elections, helping facilitate meetings and inquiries to ensure a smooth Election.

  • Leia, your VP of International Affairs, had important discussions with Bloor Neighbourhood and Wayble regarding international student job software implementation. She also played a crucial role in various events like our Cultural Fair and Sheridan’s recent Open House and is planning a retreat for the current and upcoming Board of Directors in May. Leia is currently working on a few collaborations with Sheridan, including Mission Zero, PSB and Sheridan Edge. Stay tuned to see what they come up with!

We are so proud to see how your student leaders have been actively involved in campus activities and are dedicated to making a positive impact on students. And we’re looking for more amazing students to help us do more of that next year!
