We're back with another exciting monthly update, highlighting all the incredible accomplishments and events that took place on our campuses in the month of April. From student involvement in elections to annual celebrations, here's a recap of how we worked to enhance the #SheridanLife:

Sheridan Student Union Events

This month, we ended the Winter term with our 5th Annual SheridanLife Gala! The cold and windy weather couldn't stop Sheridan students from coming out and having a great time at our formal end-of-the-year party!

We had our first bar night at our HMC campus this month with our Ping Pong Smash event at The Station. We are looking forward to holding many more events in this great space for our students!

HMC Student Centre wasn’t the only exciting change, we also said “welcome back” to The Den - our newly renovated space at the Davis campus! And with over 300 students attending the Disco Night during the last week of classes, it was a warm welcome back indeed!

We want to recognize the hard work of all of our staff over this past semester and say goodbye and well wishes to those not returning in the Fall! Thanks for your dedication Jeronimo, Vedika, Roopam, Juliana, Gloria, Muskaan, Mauricio, Aarchi, and Dhanwant!

Sheridan Student Union Clubs

Our club coordinators have been working hard on planning and transitioning for next year's team. Each coordinator held an end of year celebration to thank all of their club execs for an amazing year!

Clubs Highlights

This month, our clubs hosted 36 events and we welcomed 2 new clubs to our community.

Let's give a warm welcome to the new clubs starting up in March:

  • DevDynasty: Whether you're a coding novice or pro, join our tight-knit community. Experience innovation with coding challenges, hackathons, and workshops.

  • Sheridan's Future Educators': Helps students by providing resources, workshops, and career support for those interested in teaching young children. The club also connects students with professionals in the field and promotes understanding and inclusivity in ECE.

We also have one prospective club on the horizon, the Davis Pride Club. This inclusive space will welcome all students at Sheridan, ensuring everyone feels welcome and accepted. And the Cozy Caves' Club, which is dedicated to introverts and those who appreciate the quieter, more contemplative side of life.

Sheridan Student Union Food Services

Our Food Services team has been hard at work, catering to various events and offering delicious menu items. Highlights from this month include:

  • The opening of The Den was a huge success and have seen students flocking to the spaces and has been used at its full capacity. A feature that consistently has been performing well for us was the Sweet Chili Chicken w/Fried Rice, where students have asked to have this permanently on the menu. Vegetable Hakka style Noodles has been another feature that have customers coming back to our food services .

  • We cracked a deal with one of our vendor for the bagels, and are now able to sell the Bagel w/butter for under $2.00

  • Lastly, we serve over 550 meals in association with the Sheridan College, where our staff cooked the meals and materials were supplied by the college. We were able to do this at a cost under $ 3.00 per meal.

  • The Station officially opened in April, and we couldn't be more thrilled! We're now open every Tuesday from 3pm to 7pm starting May 7th 2024, so if you're around, do drop by!

  • Our featured dishes for the month were our delicious Chicken Fried Rice and Mac & Cheese. They've been a hit with our guests!

  • Additionally, we had the pleasure of celebrating Ridhima Chawla for her outstanding work ethic and invaluable contributions. Ridhima's dedication and commitment truly exemplify excellence in our industry, and we're incredibly proud to have her as part of our team.

Sheridan Student Union Executive Team

  • Cat, your VP of Academics, supported students with academic appeal process and had a meeting with Integrated Learning Services Leadership Team to determine new ways of supporting student’s academic experience. Cat also sat in Student Leadership Awards Selection Committee for the College and worked alongside the executive team as a CRO for our SSU Elections.

  • Ritz, your VP of Engagement, help plan our annual Staff Party and presented awards alongside Ritz & Cat at the SSU staff party. She also finalized the re-opening of the Den and did the interview for Sheridan Sun about the process of building The Den with SSU Facilities Director, Giancarlo. Now that The Den update is complete, Ritz has started to attend meetings about our next project, the Marquee renovation and started to design the Floor Layout. Stay tuned for updates on our spaces this year.

  • Leia, your VP of International Affairs, continued having important discussions with Bloor Neighbourhood and Wayble regarding international student job software implementation. She has also joined Sexual Health & Safety Committee as new member.Leia was a student representative who shared her experience and feedback on key issues faced by Mississauga students with Sheridan’s Government Relations Team in lieu of the mayoral by-election debate held at the HMC Campus.

All our Vice Presidents managed the CRO role for the SSU elections and helped with the transition between our ongoing board members and newly elected students. Together they helped Sawssan, Zaineb and Jamie plan the Board Retreat and look forward to welcoming our new Board in May.

We are so proud to see how your student leaders have been actively involved in elections, both on-campus and off-campus and who are dedicated are using both their voice and their actions to make a positive impact on students. Can’t wait to work with more amazing students to help us do more of that next year!
