What the *bleep* is the AGM?
For those students who are unclear as to what an AGM is, it is a meeting that takes place each year where any student can attend, vote, and have a say in the by-laws that govern the SSU.
With students continuously seeking a way to make sure their voice is heard, a fantastic opportunity to speak to your student leaders is fast approaching: The 2016-2017 Sheridan Student Union Annual General Meeting. The AGM is a great opportunity to share your voice, and make sure that issues important to you are known to your student ambassadors.
The AGM also focuses on a review of the SSU’s Annual Financial Statements, a presentation of the year-in-review by the current SSU Board of Directors, and an opportunity for students to meet the new President. It will be an amazing event to get involved in!
In addition to this, there will be a guest speaker at this year’s AGM. Spencer West, who will describe his journey after losing both legs from the pelvis down at the age of five, to when he climbed and summited Mount Kilimanjaro using his hands and wheelchair. Our hope is that our students are inspired by his exemplary leadership to use their voice and make changes on campus.
This year’s AGM is going to be held at HMC, in room A145, on March 16th. The AGM will start at 1:00 p.m., and run until 3:00 p.m. Following this, there will be a meet-and-greet with your student leaders and Spencer West happening in the HMC SSU office, located in A308. All student wishing to attend are welcomed, and it is an amazing opportunity to meet your student leaders, and learn more about the SSU.
